The Basics
Roleplay Style: Realism, Literate, Third-Person, Past Tense
Communication: Characters have full dialogue and may speak to one another, true-to-life bodily communication is also encouraged.
Word Count: 400 words, minimum, per post (or most of them anyway). If this is too much then perhaps you need a less advanced and literate roleplay board. There is a word-counter on the board, no fuss, no muss. Please include the number of words in your in character posts somewhere.
Activity: I can not stress this enough! If you're not here to post at least two-three times a week, minimum, this is not the board for you! We strive for an active, fun forum. The first time you are gone for more than two weeks without letting the admin know you'll get contacted by them and get a warning. The second time, you'll get demoted within your pack if you're in one and a second warning. The third time you'll be asked to leave the game. Prolonged inactivity will not be tolerated.
Inactivity: If your account has been inactive for a month with no contact, no absent thread, etc, it will be deleted and nothing saved.
Spelling/Punctuation/Grammar: We're all past elementary school. We all know how to read, write, spell. Please use proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling. If you need to, use a spell-checker. Absolutely no sticky caps or chat speak will be tolerated.
Age: It is advised that you are 15 years of age or older, due to the maturity level used on this board.
Respect: Please respect the staff and the other players. No one is asking your characters to get along, but out of character please have respect for everyone on the board. If you don't like someone, do not talk to them. Simple as that.
Disputes: If you have a dispute or a fight out of character on the board the admin will warn you. If it happens again you risk being banned.
Maturity: There is and will be mature themes used on this site, if you can't behave maturely then you needn't be here.
Accounts: You will need an account for each character you play. No two people may have the same account name.
Characters: You are limited to no more than three characters at a time.
Avatars: There is currently no limit on avatar size, but please keep them under 200 x 200 pixels. Anything bigger will be deleted.
Signatures: Signature images may be no bigger than 600px wide by 300px tall. This does not include any tables you may have in your posts.
Tables: Please keep all tables no wider than 600 pixels.
Post 'Claiming': If you just have to reply to a certain post before anyone else you may reply with something like "I claim this next post" and get in the next post, but only if you post within 24 hours. If 24 hours goes by an you still have not replied, your claim will be deleted and others may post before you.
Dialogue: Please change the dialogue part of your posts to a different color, italicize, or bold it, in addition to quotes, if you use them. Something to make it stand out from the rest of your post.
Posting Order: Stick to it unless someone tells you to go ahead and post before them. This avoids confusion.
Thread 'Codes'
[AW] or [Open] means that anyone is welcome to reply.
means 'Private'. This is usually followed by the name(s) of those who are requested to reply.
[1+] usually means the host of the thread is looking for a specific number or more people to join.
[M] means there is 'Mature' content located in the thread. It can be a good amount of swearing, violence, graphic breeding, etc. If you don't want to read that kind of thing, don't click on threads marked with the mature labeling.
[Challenge] means there is at least one character challenging for an alpha position.
[Claiming means there is a claim being staked on a previously unclaimed or alpha-less packland.
[Done] means the thread is finished and can be moved to archives. If you are finished with a thread please add this tag so we aren't keeping old threads around that are complete.
[DND] means 'Do Not Delete', or in other words, do not archive yet, for whatever reason. (In-Character posts will never be deleted. They will be moved to archives.)
[WIP] means work in progress, as in it is not completed yet. Posts in progress must be finished within a week or they will be archived.
In Character
Liquid Time: Yes liquid time exists here, but please keep it to no more than three threads at a time with the same character. This avoids confusion.
Profanity: We're all mature enough to handle this. Yes, cussing is allowed, within reason. Please don't go overboard.
Graphic Breeding/Violence/Death: Again, be mature. Yes, all three are allowed, but only in a tasteful manner. If you're going to post mature content, though, please mark your thread with a [M] tag.
Male/Male, Female/Female Pairings: Fist off, I have nothing against homosexuality at all. That being said, 'gay' and 'lesbian' pairings in character on this forum are not allowed. Once more, it is not because I have anything against that kind of thing, because I don't, at all, it's simply not allowed because that is not realistic and doesn't happen in nature.
Power-Playing: Saying what action another character takes absolutely will not be allowed. Please, no assuming your character has the upper hand in a fight. No one should be saying their character hurts, kills, tortures another character unless that character's player has agreed-to this before hand. You do not control anything another player's character does, at all, ever. (Example: ''Wolf jumps onto Dog and bites off her ear.' Dog's player wouldn't have the say-so over what happened to their own character.)
Fairness: All fights and challenges should be discussed in-depth between the character before the challenge ever begins. Remember, no power-playing. But at the same time, be fair and remember that characters rarely, if ever, emerge unscathed.
Claiming Lands: First on the land, first to claim, simple as that. If there is no alpha of a packland, the first to stake claim becomes the alpha, until challenged for the position. Please remember, the alpha position is a high-maintenance job and requires a lot of time and roleplaying effort. If you're not willing to put in the time and effort to be alpha, do not claim a packland. Packlands are the only lands that may be claimed. The neutral lands may not be claimed.
Alpha Superiority: If you are an alpha and then take a mate, he or she also becomes alpha, but the first alpha still has superiority. The superior alpha may demote their alpha mate or choose to break the mateship with him/her at any time.
Challenging for Alpha Status: A challenge is issued when a character of a lower rank wishes to fight the alpha for that title. When a challenge is issued it will be the responsibility of the alpha to step up and answer the call. Only alpha ranks may be challenged for.
--->>The challenger must clearly mark the thread title with [Challenge] somewhere in it, to ensure the pack alpha will see it.
----->> If the alpha does not respond to the challenge within three days and does not have a valid reason (see below), the challenger wins by default under the pretense that the alpha didn't show.
------->>The only exceptions to the alpha being unable to live up to the challenge (they keep the alpha title) are if they are on a planned hiatus, are a pregnant female at least thirty days along, or have been challenged within two weeks or less prior.
--------->>If there are two alphas then there will need to be two challengers as well.
----------->>If the alpha responds to the challenge the challenger can choose to back down or continue the challenge. After which will post the 'fight' back and forth in the 'challenger engage, alpha respond' format until both are satisfied and the thread is finished. If the challenger or alpha submits, gives in, or runs off at any time during the battle the opponent automatically wins.
------------>>Once the fight is over with the admin will judge the battle based upon hits, dodges, wounds, escapes, creativity, and fairness to decide a winner.
-------------->>If a challenger loses, they may not challenge that alpha again.
--------------->>If the challenger wins, they become the new alpha and have two weeks of immunity from being challenged.
Pack Life
Packs: A pack is defined as a group of two or more canines with a leader that has claim on a packland. A group of two canines with a leader is not a pack. Nor is a pair of canines with a claimed land. There must be at least three in a packland with one of them being a leader for it to constitute a true pack.
Pack Respect: Pack canines must respect the ranking system. Alphas may call their ranks whatever they like but they all follow the same outline. Pack members don't have to like the ranks or the rules laid down for each individual pack but they must follow them or risk being cast out by the alpha. Ranks lower than those higher up must do as they are told by their superiors. If a character ignores or disrespects commands given by their superiors they risk being demoted or exiled.
Violation: If a pack member does something that violates pack laws the alpha may attempt to punish them by killing them. If you do not wish your character to die you can always 'conveniently escape' and become a loner.
Seasons: The seasons change and will affect the day to day life of all characters. The season will be posted on the main board. (The seasons also affect the mortality rate on any potential litters, as it would in real life. If a female has a litter in the dead of winter in blizzard conditions there is a great risk that many of the pups will not survive.) Seasons change every two months.
Aging: Obviously canines have to age, otherwise characters would live forever. Use your best judgment but the basis for aging will be eight months equals one year.
Breeding
Permission: If you've decided that you want your character to have pups you'll need to discuss it first with the alpha(s) of your pack. If they agree then you need to roleplay out the pregnancy of your female.
Pregnancy: Females are pregnant for two months in reality. Due to liquid time being applied here you don't need to have your female be pregnant literally for two months, but remember, no female will be pregnant one day and have her litter the next day. Having your female be pregnant for one month in real time is acceptable.
Litters: When it is time for your female to have her pups, post a thread on the New Life sub-board in Memoirs. Make sure you list all of the sire/dam's stats. The admin will take into account the health condition of the sire/dam, the weather/climate conditions, and the physical traits of the parents and using a method come up with the size of the litter, the colors/genders, potential height/weight, and the number of pups that live and die. Remember the parents' statistics are what the litter outcome is based on.
Loners do not need permission to breed.
Forced breeding is not allowed under any circumstance.
(...more to come if I think of them.)
